New Delhi:
It is just not Suresh Kalmadi's day, is it? Painted into a corner by the allegations of the Foreign Ministry, the Congress MP now finds that his party will not exactly rush to his aid.
The Congress said on Tuesday that the "huge expenditure for hiring (for the Commonwealth Games) seems unrealistic," and that "if things have come to this level, it is for the Commonwealth Games organizing committee to explain."
On the fact that it is a Congress MP that heads the organizing committee, party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed made clear that Kalmadi was not there as a Congress person, but as a representative of the Indian Olympics Association.
Earlier in the day, Kalmadi's claim that the Indian High Commission in UK had recommended the contracting of a UK-based firm, Am Films and its sister concern AM Cars, was challenged by Foreign Affairs Minister SM Krishna.
Kalmadi has now set up a three-member committee to inquire into the Foreign Ministry allegation that the High Commission's correspondence was tampered with.
