Defending Movistar Open champ Bellucci wins opener
Defending champion Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil defeated Filippo Volandri of Italy 6-2, 6-2 in the first round Monday at the Movistar Open, the first clay-court tournament of the ATP season.

Third-seeded Bellucci converted five break-point opportunities and looked impressive in improving to a 38-24 career record on clay.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain beat Argentina's Leonardo Mayer 6-4, 6-4, Russian Igor Andreev downed Eduardo Schwank of Argentina 6-3, 7-6 (4), and Pablo Andujar of Spain defeated Australian Peter Luczak 6-4, 6-4.

In other first-round matches, Brazil's Ricardo Mello won against Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo of Spain 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), and Spain's Tommy Robredo defeated Frederico Gil of Portugal 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Fourth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina won 6-3, 7-5 over Jorge Aguilar of Chile while Potito Starace of Italy came from a set down to defeat local player Paul Capdeville 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Top-seeded David Nalbandian and No. 2 Juan Monaco, both of Argentina, were scheduled to play Tuesday. Bellucci defeated Monaco in last year's final.

The Chile ATP event is the first of four on clay across Latin America, with other stops in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
