Gavaskar email bypasses IPL owners, causes controversy

Gavaskar email bypasses IPL owners, causes controversy
New Delhi: NDTV has gained access to an email reportedly written by Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council member Sunil Gavaskar to the Captains of the 8 IPL teams.

In his email dated July 5, Gavaskar has strangely enough bypassed the franchise owners and sought suggestions from the captains directly.

Gavaskar suggests that teams should be allowed to retain four Indian and three foreign players, but these players will still have to go into the auction.

Franchises will get first choice on retention of nominated players if it comes down to a maximum bid price of two million dollars.

Gavaskar also agrees with Adam Gilchrist's suggestions for changes in tournament's format.

The proposals will be discussed at the next Governing Council meeting in August.
