Just two days before the most anticipated encounter in the World Cup - the India-Pakistan semi-final to be played in Mohali - Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani spoke to Pak captain Shahid Afridi over telephone and wished him luck and said Pakistan prays with him.
The Pakistan government has released a Press Statement on the conversation:
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani talked to the Captain of Pakistan cricket team Mr. Shahid Afridi over telephone and wished the best of luck to the Pakistan cricket team in the semi-final of the one-day Cricket World Cup to be played on 30th March, 2011 in Mohali,
India.
The Prime Minister conveyed the sentiments and prayers of the whole Nation for the success of the team. He said that irrespective of the result of the match, the team should demonstrate the best of sportsmanship and dedication to contest.
The Prime Minister said that while accepting the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister to witness the match, it was in his heart to be present on the occasion to express solidarity with the players of the Pakistan cricket team.
The Captain of the Pakistan cricket team Mr. Shahid Afridi assured the Prime Minister that each member of the Pakistan cricket team would put in his best performance for a favourable result.
