Hero's welcome for Viswanathan Anand

The King of Chess Viswanathan Anand returned to his hometown Chennai after his Fourth World Championship win in Sofia a couple of weeks back. (Read: Viswanathan Anand: The king of chess)

There were celebrations at Chennai's Anna International Airport, as Anand arrived with his wife Aruna late night on Sunday. Anand's parents were there to greet their son, as were lots of other fans, and even passengers from other flights. On May 11, Anand retained his crown winning the World Chess Championship title by wrapping up the final game against Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria. (Read: Nice to know I can wake up as World Champion)

Apparently, he said, his flight back home via Frankfurt was nothing compared to the 40-hour bus ride to Sofia after air traffic was chaotic all over Europe due to the volcanic ash earlier this month. (See: Viswanathan Anand: Life in Pics
