I have no problem with anybody: Gill

New Delhi: Sports Minister M S Gill on Monday said the new guidelines with regard to tenure of the sports administrators were not aimed at any individual and also defended the timing of the announcement.

Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi today questioned the timing of the announcement of the policy saying he was amazed by the order when the Games are approaching fast and Coordination Commission meeting was on.

"That has nothing to do with this. The Games are separate. I have no problem with anybody. I tried to do the job and that is what I am paid for," Gill said outside the Parliament.

The government yesterday announced that Presidents of the National Sports Federations (NSFs) can not remain in their posts for more than 12 years and the secretaries and treasurers can serve up to eight years.

This prompted sharp reactions from the NSFs , who say they are not ready to surrender the autonomy of their organisations.

Gill said people were entitled to their opinion.

"Nothing upsets me. It is a free country. Everybody has a right to comment on whatever is done by government or a minister or a ministry," he said.
