The Indian football team jumped seven places to 149 in the latest FIFA rankings after gaining 22 points for its Nehru Cup title win on Monday.
India beat Syria 6-5 on penalties in the final at a packed Ambedkar stadium to retain their title and take their points tally to 134 in the latest list.
The final win against Syria was not counted among the points as it was decided in a penalty shoot-out.
There was no change in Syria's ranking and they held on to their 96th place in the list.
World champions Brazil (1604) continued to lead the pack followed by European champions Spain (1588) and the Netherlands (1376).
