India to host 12th SA Games in 2012

Dhaka: India will host the 12th edition of South Asian Games in 2012, it was decided in the South Asian Olympic Council's Executive Committee meeting.

As per the rotation system, it was Bhutan's turn to host the next SA Games, but they expressed their inability to stage the meet, said SAOC Secretary General Kutubuddin Ahmed after their meeting at the BOA Bhawan.

"Representatives from Bhutan said they were not in a position to host the Games due to lack of infrastructure.

India's turn was next and when asked, the three-member Indian delegation accepted the offer to host the 12th edition of SA Games in 2012," Ahmed told PTI after the parley.

The venue and dates will be decided by India later, Ahmed added.

India in the past have hosted the Games twice -- in 1987 (Kolkata) and in 1995 (Chennai).

India were represented in the meeting by a three-member team, including deputy chef-de-mission Kamlesh Chatterjee and Janardan Singh Gehlot.
