Indonesia beats Japan to enter Thomas Cup finals

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Indonesia beat Japan 3-1 to book its first berth in badminton's Thomas Cup final on Friday since 2002.

Indonesia's top shuttler Taufik Hidayat scored the first point after defeating Kenichi Tago 21-9, 21-14 in just 37 minutes at Putra Stadium.

Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan then overcame Japan's Kenichi Hayakawa and Kenta Kazuno 21-9, 21-11 in 29 minutes.

Sho Sasaki won a hard-earned point for Japan after edging out Simon Santoso 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 over more than an hour, but Indonesia's Nova Widianto and Alvent Chandra secured the victory by beating Japan's second doubles pair of Noriyasu Hirata and Hiroyuki Endo 20-14, 22-20.

China and Malaysia play in the other semi-final late on Friday.
