Jankovic batters Bondarenko at Wimbledon

Jankovic batters Bondarenko at Wimbledon
Wimbledon, London: Serbian fourth seed Jelena Jankovic thrashed Ukrainian 28th seed Alona Bondarenko 6-0, 6-3 to move into the fourth round at Wimbledon on Friday.

Jankovic, who needed treatment on a knee injury between sets, was quick out of the blocks and waltzed through the first set before sealing a straight-forward win.

However, she will hope her right knee, which was heavily strapped in the medical time-out, doesn't become a problem for her fourth round match against Yanina Wickmayer or Vera Zvonareva.

Jankovic broke Bondarenko's serve for a 3-1 lead in the first set, although she wasted her efforts by double faulting in the next game to hand the break back.

Jankovic, 25, broke again in the eighth game but was visibly struggling to move freely.

The injury didn't matter too much though as Bondarenko did not make Jankovic work for her points at all in the second set.

Jankovic, a former world number one, has never been beyond the fourth round here despite making the US Open final in 2008 and her chances of improving on that record could be determined by the extent of her knee problems.
