Kaur selected captain for Indian Women's Hockey team

Bhopal: Ace forward Surinder Kaur has been made the Indian Women's Hockey Team captain for five-match test series against New Zealand scheduled next month.

Apart from Kaur, Hockey India also announced the names of 21 other players here yesterday who would take part in the competition to be played between May 11 to 22 at Palmerston North, Wellington in New Zealand.

The series will be played as a part of preparations for the upcoming World Cup to be held in Argentina. Hockey India announced the team following two-day selection trials held at Central Regional Centre of the Sports Authority of India where the players are camping.

The player selected for the team are goalkeepers - Deepika Murthy, E Rajani, defenders Binita Topo, Subhadra Pradhan, Joydeep Kaur, midfielders Ritu Rani, Mukta Barla, Deepika Thakur, Kirandeep Kaur, Roseline Ralte, forwards Surinder Kaur (skipper), Jasjeet Kaur, Rani Devi, Saba Anjum, Chanchan Devi, Saundarya, Poonam Rani, Monika Badran and standbys Yogita Bali, Preeti Keiro, T H Ranjitha Devi and Roseline Dung Dung.

M K Kaushik would be the team's Chief Coach while the coach is Vasu Thapliyar.
