Kotla pitch fiasco: Cricket Council's ban stays

New Delhi: The international Cricket Council (ICC) has dismissed Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) appeal against the ban on Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

ICC's Independent Appeals Commissioner dismissed BCCI's appeal against the decision to declare the pitch at Feroz Shah Kotla ground as dangerous and unfit and to impose a suspension until the end of 2010.

This means that Kotla may not be able to host any match till December 2010.

However, the ICC said that remedial work should be carried out so that the ground will be ready to host Cricket World Cup 2011 matches as per plan.

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said: "We must now focus on making sure the New Delhi venue is ready in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

On December 27, 2009, the fifth and final ODI between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned after 23.3 overs with the on-field umpires finding the pitch too dangerous to continue playing on.

ICC General Manager, cricket, David Richardson and ICC chief match Referee Ranjan Madugalle declared the pitch as unfit on January 21.
