Guwahati:
Members of the Manipur women Sepak Takraw team went on a rampage after they were allegedly assaulted by an electrician in their room in the wee hours on Wednesday, official sources said.
The electrician, identified as Phool Kumar Das, along with another person, entered their room at around 2:30 am, allegedly tried to take their photographs on the mobile phones and even attempted to assault them.
The players, who had come to participate in the ongoing 21st Senior National Sepak Takraw Championship, beat up Das who was subsequently arrested by security forces.
Later the players went on a rampage damaging the building where they were lodged and even broke the glasses of a police vehicle before sitting on a dharna at the Nehru Stadium's entrance.
They prevented other players, who have come for morning practice session for different disciplines, from entering the venue and a cricket player was assaulted.
Manipur players had threatened to withdraw from the championship but later agreed to participate after being assured of full security by the Assam government and immediate dismissal of the electrician.
Additional security forces have been posted at the stadium, sources said.
