New Delhi:
Bad news for Lalit Modi as he battles corruption charges and a massive investigation in connection with the Indian Premier League, of which he was the Chairman till his recent suspension.
The Bombay High Court has rejected Modi's appeal that challenges the disciplinary proceedings that have been initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is the parent body of the IPL.
Modi had alleged in court that the BCCI committee formed to handle the enquiry against him is biased and cannot be "impartial and honest." The Bombay High Court has disagreed with that. Modi will now have to meet this committee on Friday, July 16.
The BCCI's committee is made up of Arun Jaitley, Jyotiraditya Scindia and current IPL Chairman, Chirayu Amin.
Modi has been accused of orchestrating a broadcast rights deal that included a kickback of 80 crores - money which never found its way to the BCCI. He's also been charged with tampering with the auction process for IPL teams, and of facilitating proxy ownership of some of those teams.
