Mumbai cricket club's fight for survival

Mumbai cricket club's fight for survival
Mumbai: Over the years Mumbai has been the breeding ground for one of India's finest cricketing talents.

Many such players which include former greats like Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar learnt and polished their cricketing skills at the Dadar Union Club, which is fighting for its survival today.

Relegated to the realm of obscurity, barely anyone remembers its cricketing legacy. In fact, there isn't even a nameplate at the place to mark its presence.

"I played for this club at a young age and I learned a lot from the players here," former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar said.

"Some of the big names from test cricket have played here. As youngsters we used to come here and watch them play and that is how we started playing cricket," he added.

But these greats are now coming together to give this historic club a facelift. Kicking off the fundraising drive will be a match between the Indian team and Mumbai players where M S Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar will be among the star players.

This is definitely an all-out effort to give this cricket nursery a new lease of life.
