The NADA disciplinary panel hearing the case of 11 dope-tainted athletes, including three in the Asian Games squad, today adjourned its proceedings till December 9 after the athletes' counsel sought some more documents to prepare his case.
During the hearing, R K Anand, the counsel for the athletes, sought analytical reports of B samples of all the athletes from the National Dope Testing Laboratory, which said it can provide the documents only on November 18 as it is now busy with dope tests of athletes bound for this month's Asian Games.
Anand also sought to cross examine the officials who were involved in the chain of custody of the dope samples.
Twelve athletes, including weightlifter Sanamacha Chanu had tested positive for methylhexaneamine in the samples taken during the Commonwealth Games selection trials.
But the NADA panel had lifted the provisional suspension imposed on them last month, after the WADA decided to shift the banned stimulant from 'non-specified' to 'specified' substance in the 2011 list of prohibited substances.
However, Chanu, who is not being represented by Anand and is appearing in a separate hearing, finds herself in a corner as the panel seemed unsatisfied with her explanation today and had reserved its judgment for November 16.
Chanu now faces a possible life ban as if found guilty this would be her second doping offence. She had tested positive for a diuretic at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was stripped of her fourth place finish in the 53kg category.
Meanwhile, four out of the six wrestlers who flunked dope tests -- Rajiv Tomar, Mausam Khatri, Sumit and Gursharanpreet Kaur -- missed the just-concluded Commonwealth Games as they were dropped from the squad.
Tomar, Khatri and Kaur have now been named in the squad for the Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12-27.
The other two wrestlers who are facing the NADA hearing are Rahul Mann and Joginder Singh.
Apart from them, swimmers Richa Misra and Jyotsana Pansare are also facing the hearing but were included at the last minute in the Commonwealth Games squad while Amar Muralidharan was not in the CWG squad. Shot Putter Shaurabh Vij was the third dope-tainted athlete to take part in the Commonwealth Games.
Haryana discus thrower Aakash Antil had also tested positive for methylhexaneamine.
