Nehru Cup: Past winners

New Delhi: Since its launch in 1982, thirteen editions of the Nehru Cup International Football Tournament has been played. Till 1989, it was organized every year. From 1986 onwards, it was played every alternate year.

However, it was shelved for a period of 9 years, i.e. from 1998 to 2006.

The erstwhile Soviet Union had won the title four times, while Hungary and Iraq have won twice. Uruguay, India, Romania, Poland and North Korea each won once. Uruguay had clinched the maiden title.

1986: Soviet Union beat China 1-0
1987: Soviet Union beat Bulgaria 2-0

1989: Hungary beat Soviet Union 2-1
1991: Romania B beat Hungary 3-1
1993: North Korea beat Romania 2-0
1995: Iraq beat Russia 1-0
1997: Iraq beat Uzbekistan 3:1
