Sania's dad confirms she's single again

Hyderabad: Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza has called off her engagement with childhood friend Mohammed Sohrab Mirza, citing "incompatibility".

Sania's father, Imram Mirza, told NDTV, "It was very much a mutual decision. Sania has already said there was incompatibility between the two and they both came to us. The families have been very close. We have known each other for half a century now. It was mutually agreed that it might be in the best interest of everyone concerned that it should be called off.''

The 23-year-old Hyderabadi had got engaged to 24-year-old Sohrab, who belongs to a Hyderabadi business family, in July last year.

"We were friends for years but found ourselves incompatible as fiances. I wish Sohrab the very best in life," Sania said in a brief statement without elaborating the exact reasons for the break up.

Sohrab is currently studying business in the United Kingdom.

Imran Mirza says for now, Sania will focus on her tennis. "She will continue to play. This has nothing to do with her career. She has been playing before, through the engagement and now.''

As for his daughter's emotional state, he said, ``It could hurt both. She has to fight her way out of it."
