Somdev Devvarman struggled past Alex Bogolomov Jr. in three sets to book a quarter-final berth in the singles event of the ATP Challenger event in Aptos, USA.
The second seed Somdev faced stiff competition from the American before triumphing 6-2 5-7 6-3 in the second round of the USD 75,000 hard court event.
It was first meeting between the two players.
Somdev will next face Briton seventh seed Alex Bogdanovic, who got a walkover from Slovakia's Karol Beck.
Beck suffered an injury in his right shoulder and decided to opt out of the contest.
