Suranjoy Singh will lead India's medal hopes in boxing after his Gold medal winning performance during the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Suranjoy who won the Flyweight gold after getting a walk-over in the final will have to get past the tough Uzbekistan pugilists to win Gold.

The 24-year old boxer from Imphal is a soldier with the Indian Navy. Suranjoy competes in the 51 kg fly weight category. The diminutive pugilist is a livewire inside the ring and is known for his aggressive style.

In the flyweight (51kg) final of the inter-continental President's Cup in Baku in 2009, the Navyman outpunched his rival 8-1 to win the gold medal, the first-ever by an Indian in an Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) organised event.

Suranjoy Singh gave India its first Asian Championship gold medal in boxing after 15 years when he beat Li Chao of China 9-8 in 2009. Suranjoy had earlier won a bronze medal in the junior World Championship in 2004.
