Sushil to lead India's challenge in World Wrestling C'ship

New Delhi: Olympic bronze medallist Sushil Kumar will spearhead India's challenge in the World Wrestling Championship to be held in Herning, Denmark from September 21 to 27.

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, who won a gold in the German Grand Prix earlier this year, will feature in the 66kg freestyle category.

Sushil said he is optimistic about a good performance in the elite event.

"I am very excited about the World Wrestling Championship. I have been practicing all these months to sharpen my skills. After the good showing in Grand Prix, I am confident about performance in the World Wrestling Championship," said Sushil, who made it to the quarterfinals of the event in 2007.

Apart from Sushil, Balraj Singh (55kg), Hardeep Singh (60kg) and Anil Mann (96kg) are the other grapplers who will represent India in the freestyle category, while Rajender Kumar (55kg), Ravinder Singh (60kg), Sunil Kumar (66kg), Anil Kumar (96kg) and Dharmender Dalal will compete in the Greco-Roman style.

Arjuna awardee Alka Tomar (59kg) will lead India's six-member female contingent which will also have Nirmal Devi (48kg), Babita (51kg), Suman Kundu (63kg), Geetika Jakhar (67kg) and Gursharanpreet Kaur (72kg).
