Vijender in world boxing quarters

Milan:

Olympic Bronze Medalist Vijender Singh has entered the quarterfinals of the World Boxing Championships in Milan.

The top seed in the 75 kilogram category defeated Steve Rolls of Canada 4:2 in the pre-quarter-finals.

Vijender was trailing after the first round in his pre-quarter final but used his maturity and what many classify as his superior ring craft to come through into the last eight. This is one of the best performances by the Indian pugilists at a World Championships in recent times.

Two Indians - Vijender in the 75 kg category and Dinesh Kumar in the 81 kg category - have reached the last eight. All the quarterfinal bouts will be held later today.
