Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh has created history by advancing to the semifinals of the World Boxing Championships in Milan, thereby, ensuring that India wins its first medal ever at a world boxing championship.
In his quarterfinal bout the top seed in the 75-kilogram category defeated Ukraine's Sergiy Derevyanchenko 12-4. It was an easy outing for Vijender. The 23-year-old was leading right from the start.
Before leaving for Milan, Vijender had said that he wanted to create history and he has done exactly that.
