New Delhi:
Boxer Vijender Singh finds himself in a tug-of-war with the sports management firm that has been looking after his interest questioning the legality and morality of the boxer's multi-crore deal with another company.
Reacting to Vijender's deal with Percept, the Infinity Optimal Solutions Pvt Ltd said in a statement that it is dismayed and amazed at the news since the Haryana boxer is still contractually and legally bound to IOS for the next six years.
"IOS wishes to clarify and categorically state IOS has signed an exclusive Client Representation Agreement with Vijender Singh on September 15, 2005 for a period of 10 years (till September 2015). With the signing, IOS holds the exclusive rights to represent him in all the commercial possibilities that can emanate from such a relationship," the company said in a statement.
"Vijender's association with IOS is a well known fact and if these claims are held to be true then it is unethical on the part of Percept to approach a sportsperson already under contract with some other company," it said.
"I am shocked to hear the news. We have supported him financially and more than that motivationally when no one looked at him and now if he is doing this for money it is very unethical of Vijender to have done something like this, also illegal if this is the case," Neerav Tomar, CEO of IOS said.
Earlier on Friday, Olympic bronze medallist became the first Indian boxer to ink a multi-crore deal with a Sports Management firm, signing up with Percept to promote adventure sports.
"We are taking him on board. It is beyond endorsement, which is just a small pie. We want him to partner us in promoting adventure sports," Percept's Joint Managing Director Shailendra Singh said from Mumbai.
Vijender may do TV shows as part of the agreement with Percept.
