World Cup bid: It's Beckham vs Nicole Kidman

World Cup bid: It's Beckham vs Nicole Kidman
New Delhi: She's a soccer mom, with her children playing football and now Nicole Kidman is all-set to be the star face of Australia's bid for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Hollywood star will make personal appearances to try and boost her home country's chances of bagging the 2018 hosting rights. This could potentially boil down to Kidman vs David Beckham, since the star footballer's global appeal is being used by England for their bid.

While Beckham is expected to turn up in Cape Town in time for Friday's Media Expo, Kidman will be making personal appearances during the lead-up to FIFA's decision on hosting rights at the end of next year.

In the meantime, she will promote the bid through a short film that will be publicly released to the football world at the Expo. In the film Kidman describes Australia as a ''safe pair of hands'' and a tournament there as ''The No Worries World Cup''.

The Football Federation of Australia though are being considered rank outsiders for the 2018 version, but could be in with a chance for the 2022 World Cup.

Other celebs who will take part in the event are Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, nine-time world champion Gebrselassie and Makhaya Ntini, the first black player in the South African cricket team, South African rugby captain John Smit, former South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela.

Nobel Peace Prize winners F.W. de Klerk and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, as well as former football icons Franz Beckenbauer, Michel Platini, Eusebio and Roger Milla will also be on hand.

South African president Jacob Zuma will kick-off proceedings alongside FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
