Srinagar: An 11-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a private school in Srinagar yesterday.
Najeeb Bin Noor, a class III student from Tengpora locality of Batmaloo, allegedly used his belt to hang himself in the school's bathroom at Kursoo-Rajbagh locality immediately after the morning assembly, police said.
"Noor was found missing from his classroom during attendance, soon after the morning assembly... We searched him everywhere and finally found the bathroom locked from inside," a school teacher said.
When there was no response, the door of the bathroom was broken and the boy was found hanging from the window grill, the teacher said.
Police said the boy's body has been sent for postmortem. Almost all schools in the Valley, both private as well as government, reopened this morning after 10 days of summer vacation.
