Srinagar:
Mountain rescue teams, CCTV cameras, fire fighting units and X-ray baggage scanning units will be put in place to ensure a safe and orderly Amarnath pilgrimage, set to begin from June 25.
These measures were discussed at a high-level security review meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), in Srinagar yesterday, a spokesman of the board said.
Deployment of Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) of the state police at identified locations on both Pahalgam and Baltal yatra routes, setting up of joint control rooms and disaster management centres and their effective coordination with meteorological department were discussed at the meeting, the spokesman said.
Deployment of well-equipped fire fighting units at identified locations, provision of adequate number of X-Ray baggage scanning units on both the routes and installation of CCTV cameras at important locations in the yatra route were also discussed.
Air Traffic Control arrangement will also be made for the heli-services for Pahalgam and Baltal yatra routes, he said.
It was also decided to put in place a foolproof mechanism of access control to stop over-enthusiastic personnel, pilgrims and service providers from proceeding on the arduous track before the scheduled date of Yatra commencement.
