Avalanche warning issued in Kashmir Valley
Srinagar: An avalanche warning was on Thursday issued by the state authorities for higher reaches of Kashmir following snowfall in the Valley.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has issued an avalanche warning on Thursday in view of the fresh snowfall in areas of Kashmir Valley, an official spokesman said.

People living in areas like Nowgam, Chowkibal, Budnambal, Karnah, Keran, Jumagand, Kenthawali, Machil and Lashdat along the Line of Control in north Kashmir have been advised not to venture into steep avalanche-prone slopes, he said.

They have also been advised to remove snow from roof tops of their houses to avoid any causality due to house collapse, the spokesman said.

Kashmir Valley, including summer capital of the state - Srinagar, received fresh snowfall on Wednesday, resulting in drop in the day temperature.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 9.8 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees normal for this time of the year.
