Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police has detained a French journalist in Srinagar for misusing his "business visa" to make a documentary film on separatists and "pellet victims".
"Comiti Paul Edward has been detained for violating visa norms in Srinagar," a senior police officer said.
"Mr Edward was detained on Sunday evening from Srinagar's Kothibagh area. He was meeting separatists and pellet victims in the city to shoot his documentary," the officer said.
Those throwing stones and disrupting peace suffered injuries from pellet guns used in 2016 after the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani.
"Mr Edward has a passport and a business visa for India, valid up to December 22, 2018," the senior officer said.
A business visa does not permit anyone to make a documentary film on political or security related issues. A police case or FIR (First Information Report) has been registered against Mr Edward under relevant sections of the 'Passport Act', the senior officer confirmed.
"The French Embassy has also been informed about Mr Edward's detention," the officer said.
