Heavy Rainfall in Kashmir Valley Leads to Waterlogging

File Photo: The Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread rains for three days in the Valley.

Srinagar: Rains lashed Kashmir Valley early morning today leading to waterlogging in many areas of Srinagar and causing damage to several residential houses.

Srinagar received 5.6 mm of rainfall till 8:30 hours in the morning.

However, the rainfall intensified after that and for three hours till 11:30 am, the city recorded 11.4 mm of rains, a Meteorological office spokesman in Srinagar said.

He said moderate rains or thundershowers would continue at many places in the Valley over the next 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread rains for three days in the Valley.

The heavy rains today caused blockage of drainage system and waterlogging in many areas of the city.

Police said waterlogging has been reported from many areas like Kanikadal, Babademb, Awantbawan, Illahi Bagh, Vachernag, Kawdara, Qamarwari, Noorbagh, Durganag, Indra Nagar and Shivpora.

Reports of damage at Saifdin Pora, Rajouri Kadal and  other areas have also been received as water entered in the houses there, the police said, adding more details are being  gathered.
