Jammu and Kashmir government approves two power projects

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government today approved two power projects to Independent Power Producers (IPP) on Sindh and Suri rivers of the state.

"The State Cabinet, which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accorded sanction to the development of Parkachik-Panikher Hydro-electric Project on River Suri (Ladakh) and Shutkari Kulan Hydro-electric Project on River Sindh (Sonamarg) by Independent Power Producers," an official spokesman said.

He said the projects were allotted to power producers selected by the Swiss challenge method by Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) on a pilot basis.

The official spokesman did not give any further details about the power projects.

However, the official website of the JKSPDC claims that Parkachik-Panikher HEP has power potential of 100 MWs, while Shutkari Kulan Hydro-electric Project can generate up to 84 MWs.
