Locals get some relief as night temperature rises in Kashmir

Srinagar: The night temperature across the Kashmir division, including Ladakh region, appreciated by several degrees with Kargil town recording the lowest of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, MET Department said today.

The night temperature rose by nearly three degrees in Kargil from minus 6.0 degrees Celsius and more than seven degrees to minus 0.8 degrees Celsius in Leh compared to its previous recording, an official of the MET Department said.

All the weather observatories in Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature above the freezing point as overcast skies improved the chances of early snowfall in the plains of the Valley, the official said.

Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir recorded a temperature of 0.0 degree Celsius while the mercury at Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at 0.6 degrees Celsius, the official said.

He said Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a 1.2 degree increase in minimum temperature to 2.4 degrees Celsius.

The weather office, however, has forecast that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the state from today, which will lead to rain or snowfall over the next two days.
