Srinagar:
The holy relics, retrieved from the Dastageer Sahib shrine minutes before it was gutted in a fire incident here on Monday, were displayed today to allay apprehensions about any damage caused to them.
'Sajada Nasheen' (custodian of the shrine) Syed Khalid Geelani displayed the holy relics, which were housed in the shrine named after 11th century preacher Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, to reporters at his Khanyar residence in Srinagar.
Mr Geelani said the relics included a hair strand of the preacher, a copy of a hand-written Quran dating back 1400 years and other manuscripts written by the companions of Prophet Mohammad.
He said the relics were displayed to clear any doubts about their safety.
The revered 200-year-old shrine was gutted in a fire at Khanyar in old city on Monday.
The state government has ordered a probe by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir into the incident. It also announced that the shrine will be reconstructed as per the old design and architecture.
