Srinagar:
A fire broke out in a busy market in Srinagar today and engulfed six buildings used as godowns, but there was no report of any loss to life.
Three buildings suffered damage, while the other three were saved due to timely action by fire fighters, Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services M A Dar said.
"Fire broke out at Gonikhan-Maharaj Bazar market from a house around 2.50 PM and immediately engulfed five adjoining buildings," he said, adding all the six buildings were being used as godowns.
There was no casualty in the blaze, he said.
Dar said, "We acted timely and managed to put off the blaze within half-an-hour, thus averting a major tragedy."
"We are investigating the cause of the fire," he said, adding, "Preliminary investigations showed it was caused by electric short circuit."
