Rs 9 lakh burglary at a wedding in Surat

Surat: Shah's joy was shortlived when their elder son's wedding ceremony brought some gatecrashers in the form of burglars who sneaked in and decamped with booty worth Rs 9 lakh.

A complaint has been registered with police. According to the case details, one Punit Shah, son of Ahmedabad-based land developer Ashok Shah and a resident of Ravi nagar bunglows at Satellite was solemnising his marriage at a private party plot at Vesu. As a ritual, the bride's family had given a bag containing jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh which was in the custody of one of the woman family members.

While everybody was engrossed in merrymaking, including the relative, the bag was a forgotten chapter, till realisation dawned that it was missing. Even as shocked relatives scanned the premises threadbare for more than two hours, the bag was nowhere to be found.

Unable to locate the valuables, Shah then registered a complaint at the Umra police station. "We don't know who did it neither have we any doubt upon anybody. It looks that burglar broke into our wedding and took away the bag. We are waiting for the mystery to get solved," a shocked Shah told DNA.
