Surat:
Municipal official in Surat have threatened to go on a strike from today if the police did not release an official of the firefighting department who was arrested for issuing fake fire safety certificates.
The Police and the municipal commission in the port city are on a collision course over the arrest of a senior officer of Pankaj Patel, a chief Fire officer.
Late Thursday night, fire brigade personnel along with some middle rung officials gathered at the Varaccha police station circling the police station with fire tenders to protest against the arrest of Mr Patel.
Local police had arrested the Chief Fire Official, Pankaj Patel, for allegedly issuing no objection certificates to a building that caught fire twice this year.
Police alleges that the certificate was issued even though it did not have proper fire-fighting equipment.
The civic body personnel say that the police had arrested the Mr Patel without any valid grounds and without sanction from the municipal commissioner.
Last month the police had arrested an engineer after a portion of a flyover caved in. Police had filed a case against the engineer for faulty construction.
