Udhagamandalam, Tamil Nadu:
About 200 passengers of the heritage Nilgiri Mountain Rail service were stranded for nearly two hours after a huge tree uprooted in heavy rains fell on the track between Kallar and Aderley stations today.
The train, which left Mettupalayam at 7.10 AM, was stopped just after Kallar, following information about the tree on the track due to heavy rains lashing the area, the sources said.
Workers form Railways and PWD departments cleared the track after which the train left for its onward journey.
More than a century-old Nilgiris Mountain Railway train was declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
It is a star attraction among the tourists as it climbs the mountain offering a visual treat of picturesque valleys and reaches Udhagamandalam in about four hours.
