Chennai: Gold worth Rs 1.2 crore was seized from two passengers at the Tiruchirapalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu on Monday.
The men, frequent travellers, were returning from Kuala Lumpur by an Air India Express flight when the 5.2kg gold was seized, said the authorities.
The gold was hidden in the toilets of the aircraft, officials claimed.
Authorities said that several passengers are being used as couriers in specific Air India Express flights by smugglers to bring gold into the country.
Officials from the Department of Revenue Intelligence, Chennai, said investigations are still going on.
