Chennai: Eight students were killed in a road accident in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu as their car hit a tree at Vanamadevi.
One student survived and is being treated.
The District Superintendent of Police Vijayakumar said, "We suspect the young students were drunk and speeding. The car was clearly overcrowded with people."
"The accident happened on a road that has very little traffic," he added.
Investigators say the men were students of MIT Polytechnic in Salem district.
