Adi Dravidar Welfare Department launches revised Housing Subsidy Scheme

Puducherry: The Adi Dravidar Welfare Department has launched a revised Housing subsidy scheme to ensurethat all 12,000 huts are replaced by concrete houses during the twelfth plan (2012-2017) in the Union Territory.

The department has finalised a Rs 480 crore housing subsidy scheme to achieve the goal of having all Adi Dravidar familiesliving in concrete houses instead of huts.

Chief Minister N.Rangasamy launched the first phase of the scheme under which each of the 12,000 Adi Dravidarfamilies would be handed over a housing subsidy of Rs four lakh.

The Administration aims at covering all the Adi Dravidar families under the scheme in the five year period in thetwelfth plan by extending assistance to 2400 families a year.

Welfare Minister P Rajavelu said the housing subsidy was being distributed under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing scheme.

He said earlier the housing subsidy was only Rs 2500 a family and it was distributed under Housing Subsidy Rules in1983.This was in the next phase raised to Rs two lakh.

Chief Minister had announced within days of forming the new government last year that this subsidy would be raised to Rsfour lakh per family which had since been implemented,he said.
