Chennai:
Anna Hazare is set to visit Chennai on Sunday. The anti-corruption crusader is expected to address a public meeting at the Pachaiyappa's College grounds in the afternoon. Thereafter, he will meet volunteers of India Against Corruption and discuss the direction of the movement with them. Hazare is expected to land at the Chennai airport at around 10:30am. He will then be taken to an undisclosed location to freshen up. He is set to address the media in the afternoon and take part in the public meeting that is scheduled to start at 3pm.
"Annaji is coming to Chennai to increase awareness and volunteer enrolment in India Against Corruption. The visit comes at a time when we are preparing for another indefinite fast if the government does not introduce the Lokpal Bill in this session of Parliament," said an India Against Corruption volunteer. While Anna's visit is confirmed, it remains unclear who all from his core committee will be accompanying him. Anna too has only the public meeting and the meeting with the volunteers on his agenda. There are presently no plans for him to meet with any politicians or leaders.
"This is a platform for those interested in the anti-corruption movement to meet and talk to Annaji. He is not coming here to parley with anyone. This is the first time he is coming to Chennai after the anti-corruption movement gained momentum in the country. So, we are looking forward to meeting him," said the India Against Corruption volunteer. Sources said Anna Hazare goes to bed early. Volunteers and frontline leaders of India Against Corruption may sit in discussion on the way forward for the movement, the volunteer added. Anna Hazare is scheduled to leave Chennai on Monday morning, and head for Hyderabad.
