Chennai:
Former DMK Minister A V Velu has been raided by the officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC). A case has been registered for accumulating Rs 26 lakh worth assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
Mr Velu was Food Minister during the earlier DMK regime.
A DVAC release said the raids were conducted following specific information against Mr Velu and a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The raids were conducted at a few places.
The DMK called the raids a political vendetta and vowed to fight is legally.
Mr Velu is the latest DMK leader to face the DVAC crackdown over corruption charges.
Residences of 12 other former DMK ministers and an MLA had earlier been raided by the DVAC while several other party leaders faced police action over land grabbing charges since the AIADMK came to power in May last year.
