Chennai:
The most senior members of the DMK, the party's general council, will meet in Chennai today. Sources say that the party may announce new hefty designations for Kanimozhi and her step-brother MK Stalin. Their father, M Karunanidhi, heads the DMK. A preliminary meeting was held this evening, and was attended by Kanimozhi.
The Rajya Sabha MP was let out of jail in November last year; she is on trial in the telecom scam. This is her first appearance at a major party meeting since then.
The telecom scam was allegedly designed and executed by another senior DMK leader, A Raja, who completes one year in jail today. In 2008, he sanctioned 122 telecom licenses which have been cancelled by the Supreme Court this morning.
The DMK's senior members are meant to discuss an enrollment drive for new members and internal elections for the party.
