Coimbatore: A brain dead young engineer has given new lease of life to four persons who were transplanted with vital organs harvested from him.
28-year old V Anandraj, a civil engineer with a private construction company, was critically injured in a road accident in Tirupur district on January 16 while heading to his native Aaiyakudi village on a two-wheeler.
Doctors at Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), where he was being treated, declared him brain dead on January 18 and his father Vijayaraghavan volunteered to donate the organs, a KMCH release said.
A team of doctors from Government Hospital and KMCH harvested two kidneys, liver, and skin and sent them to different hospitals.
KMCH Chairman Dr Nalla G Palaniswami offered his gratitude to the family members of the accident victim and explained the importance of organ donation.
