Chennai Floods: Cooperative Iffco to Provide Relief Material Worth Rs 1 Crore

New Delhi: Fertiliser cooperative Iffco today said it will provide relief material worth Rs 1 crore to the people of flood-battered districts of Kanchipuram, Cuddalore and Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu.

The on-ground action on providing relief material will be taken immediately by the state office of Iffco in Tamil Nadu and other state cooperatives.

"The material will be finalised as per the most important need of the affected people which will provide immediate help to them and boost their confidence to fight this natural calamity," Iffco said in a statement.

Earlier, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (Iffco) provided relief to Kashmir flood affected people and in Uttarakhand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced an immediate release of Rs 1,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation works in Tamil Nadu. This will be in addition to Rs 940 crore which was released earlier by the Centre.

Heavy rains continued to lash coastal Cuddalore district, one of the worst affected areas ever since North-East monsoon fury started early last month, and Villupuram and Kanyakumari districts and Puducherry as the death toll in the state mounted to 269.

All modes of transport -- air, road and rail services -- have been hit due to the unprecedented deluge, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at the airport and various rail terminals.
