Ms Vishnupriya was unmarried and hailed from a family of police in the Cuddalore district.
The police officer investigating a dishonour killing case in Tamil Nadu, who was found hanging in her quarters last week, was ill-treated by her senior, her father has alleged, raising the clamour for a CBI probe into the death of his daughter.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnupriya was found dead in her quarters in Tamil Nadu's Namakkal on Friday. A suicide note was found from her room in which she called herself "unfit" for the job and has asked not to link her suicide to the case she was probing.
But M Ravi, father of the 27-year-old police officer, said that her supervisor, Namakkal SP SR Senthil Kumar, had ill-treated her daughter and drove her to suicide.
"Mr Senthil used to call her useless, my daughter has told me. Torture by officers and also political pressure is the reason. She's not a coward to commit suicide," Mr Ravi said.
The police however have strongly denied the allegations. Inspector General A Amalraj said, "There is nothing to hide."
Mr Senthil has denied the charges as well. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ruled out a CBI probe.
Besides her father, a colleague of Vishnupriya has also suggested the fault of her seniors.
K Maheswari, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a friend of Vishnupriya, said, "Senior officers threatened to issue a memo to her if she did not arrest Yuvaraj the key accused in the Gokulraj death case."
Ms Maheswari, said that Vishnupriya was being pressed to indict some people who were not connected to the case that she was probing.
Vishnupriya was investigating a case involving the death of a young Dalit man Gokularaj, who was killed in June this year for purportedly talking to a woman from an upper caste.
The
Crime Branch CID wing of the state police has taken over the probe into the death of Vishnupriya. But her family is raising questions on the agency's track record.
