Erode: The mysterious death of a 50-year-old Dalit man has led to tension in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu.
Chinnasamy was found dead in a well near Perundurai town on Saturday.
He had gone as part of a committee to talk to members of another group after a Dalit youth was allegedly attacked during a temple festival.
Chinnasamy's body has been moved to the adjoining Coimbatore district where Dalit groups protested on Sunday demanding arrest of those responsible.
The family refused to collect the body calling for arrests.
Police said they are investigating the death. Official sources said that it was unlikely that Chinnasamy was murdered since he had no injury marks on the body.
They suspect the man may have accidentally fallen into the well.
Last week, a Dalit man who had married an upper caste woman was hacked to death. His wife was also attacked but survived.
