Chennai:
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today complained that ongoing railway projects in Tamil Nadu are progressing at "snail's speed" and requested United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to intervene and prevail over the Centre to allocate more funds to the projects.
On the directions of party chief M Karunanidhi, Dravida Munnetra Khazagam Parliamentary Leader T R Baalu, Mmeber of Parliament, called on Gandhi at her residence today in Delhi and took up the matter with her, a release from his office said.
Baalu,also Chairman of the Standing Committee on Railways, met Gandhi to "persuade her to prevail upon the Government of India to provide more funds to the ongoing projects of Tamil Nadu which are progressing at snail's speed," it said.
Baalu requested Gandhi to "advise" the government to sanction new railway projects to the state in the Railway Budget 2011-12, including sanctioning of a fourth terminal in Chennai at Royapuram, which Baalu had already taken up with the Railway Ministry, it added.
