With prices expected to hover around Rs.34-37 and Rs.34-36 per kg for blackgram and green gram respectively for another two months, farmers have been asked to sell their crops upon harvest and not to store them.
Domestic Export and Market Intelligence Cell (DEMIC) in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University here analysed prices of blackgram and green gram that prevailed during the last 10 years in Villupuram Regulated Market and found that it would be around Rs.34-37 and Rs.34-36 during April and May.
Current ruling prices of blackgram is Rs.37 and green gram Rs.36 in Villupuram market, where wholesale blackgram prices attained its maximum of Rs.56 in May 2010, while for green gram Rs.62 per kg, it said in a release here today.
The present decline in the prices was due to bumper production in 2010-11, which was however, lower than last year.
The ational production of blackgram and greengram during 2010-11 was 1.74 and 1.82 million tonnes respectively, DEMIC said.
