Chennai:
The first session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly for this year will begin today with the customary address by Governor K Rosaiah.
The session, Rosaiah's first as Tamil Nadu Governor, is expected to be a short one.
In his address, the Governor will lay out the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's schemes and plans. The Opposition is likely to raise issues, including the hike in bus fare and milk price.
At the end of the debate on the motion to thank the governor, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is expected to wrap up the session with her reply.
A special session was convened on December 15 last year to discuss the Mullaperiyar dam row and this session will be the first after All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) parted ways with Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and the Left parties.
The parties had faced the April 2011 Assembly polls from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led platform to rout the then Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, but had split in the wake of the local body polls held later in that year.
